Windows Live Writer Beta - Test Post

Weird. For some reason connecting to a spaces blog loads your background image into Windows Live Writer.

The UI seems like a cross between old (nearly flat web gradients) and new UI's (Office 2007 TabStrips). I'm surprised they didn't take the latter. It's not bad though.

    So far I can see:

    • Basic WYSIWYG HTML support (much like Google's Writely, or VS2005, or the Expression Designer)
    • Spell checking - but not on the fly, in fact it's not even checked prior to publishing unless you turn it on (under Tools|Preferences)
    • Multiple blog support
    • Multiple Ping server support
    • Map Insert support using Windows Live Local (although my house in Woodbridge, VA is unavailable - and it suggests some place in France as a possible alternative - hmm, what are they saying to me?)
    • Images (like the map below) are automatically uploaded to Windows Live Spaces. Cool.
    • [Update: 10:50p] Crossposting to multiple blogs is possible by selecting the other blog account and 'Publishing' the same entry again
    • [Update: 10:50p] Curiously - post categories are not supported (by either Geekswithblogs's ancient, customized .TEXT engine or EVEN Windows Live Spaces). I suspect it has something to do with the API in use (does Metaweblog API even support categories?)
    • [Update: 10:50p] Posts can be edited, and published... and a SECOND post is NOT created. Thankfully, it merely edits the existing post (unless we're talking about Geekswithblogs - where I get the dreaded “Specified cast is not valid.” stupidity when I attempt to edit an existing post)

How is this remotely close to my house? Sure this isn't Live Writer related... but still. Come on!
